WHY TYPEARC

More than a WPM number.

01

Multiple test styles

Timed tests from 15 to 120 seconds, fixed word counts, quotes, random A–Z letters and custom text for realistic practice.

02

Live precision metrics

Track WPM, raw speed, accuracy, errors and consistency while you type — with standard five-character WPM math, including Letters A–Z practice.

03

Weak-key heatmap

See which letters cause your mistakes, so your next practice session has a clear target instead of guesswork.

04

Private progress

Choose Guest or a device-only profile. Personal bests, history and streaks stay in this browser and never sync between devices.

05

Focus controls

Switch themes, hide distractions, choose content packs and enable strict mode when you want accuracy-first training.

06

Instant feedback

Each result includes a simple coaching insight based on your actual speed, accuracy and consistency.

TYPE SMARTER

How typing speed is measured

Typing speed is normally reported in words per minute (WPM). A standard “word” equals five typed characters, including spaces. TypeArc calculates raw WPM from all typed characters and net WPM from correct characters, normalized to one minute. Accuracy compares correct keystrokes with total keystrokes.

WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes

Three habits that improve speed

Accuracy before speed. Slow down enough to stop repeating the same mistakes. Clean repetitions build useful muscle memory.

Practice little and often. A focused 5–10 minute session most days is easier to sustain than an occasional marathon.

Train your weak keys. Your heatmap shows where errors cluster. Use a custom test containing words with those letters.

What is a good typing speed?

There is no single target that fits everyone. For everyday work, accuracy and comfort matter as much as peak WPM. Use your own recent scores as the most useful benchmark and look for steady improvement rather than chasing one unusually fast run.

FAQ

Typing test questions

How does the optional profile work?

You may create a username, enter a mobile number and set a password for a device-only profile. Only verification hashes and the phone number’s last four digits are saved in this browser. Your mobile number is not verified. A local profile is not a secure online account: it cannot sync to another device or recover a lost password. Guest mode is always available.

What is the Letters A–Z test?

Choose Letters A–Z to practice individual letter keys using groups of randomly generated lowercase letters. Choose a 15-, 30-, 60- or 120-second duration. Spaces between groups are part of the practice text.

Is TypeArc free?

Yes. Play as Guest without signing up, or create an optional device-only profile. No advertisements are active at launch.

Does TypeArc upload what I type?

The typing engine and progress history run in your browser. TypeArc does not require an account and does not intentionally send your test text or keystroke history to an application server. The hosting provider may still process ordinary connection logs to deliver the website.

Why can WPM change during the test?

WPM is normalized from what you have typed so far. Early in a test, a few fast or slow seconds have a larger effect. Longer tests generally give a steadier picture of sustained speed.

What does consistency mean?

Consistency estimates how steady your raw WPM is over time. A higher percentage means your speed varied less during the run.

Can I practice my own text?

Yes. Choose Custom mode, paste text you are allowed to use, and start typing. Custom text stays in your browser for that session.
